The conductor

Musician and musicologist Peter Scholcz, the permanent conductor of the Liszt Ferenc Chorus, studied music theory at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest. After settling in the Netherlands, he studied the double bass at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague, and Musicology at the University of Utrecht. He was until recently a member of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.

Peter Scholcz is Chairman of the Franz Liszt Kring (the Franz Liszt Society in the Netherlands) and of the Géza Frid Stichting (a foundation promoting the work of the late Hungarian-Dutch composer). In 1986, the year commemorating the centenary of Liszt's death, Hungary paid tribute to the conductor for his considerable contribution to the dissemination of the country's cultural heritage. Eleven years later, the Ministry of Education and Culture in Budapest awarded him the even higher distinction of Pro Cultura Hungarica in recognition of his work on behalf of Hungarian culture abroad.
