This pioneering work concerning the last 17 years of Franz Liszt’s life is a translation from the Hungarian of an original biography dating from 1978. Legány has done his homework! But the result is not an endless, unimaginative series of facts. For the music scholar there are facts enough, and these are well-ordered and indexed. But for the rest of us it is a highly readable and fascinating account of an intriguing life, a mature life, lived to the full. Perhaps because of the limited print-run, these books may be less well known than their quality deserves. We are now able to offer visitors to this site of the Liszt Ferenc Chorus in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the chance to broaden their knowledge in a most pleasurable way.
